Weekly Patient Newsletter - Thursday, October 7 Posted or Updated on 15 Feb 2022

Welcome to the latest of our weekly newsletters. We regard it as a priority that all our patients are kept fully informed of all developments at Buckshaw Village Surgery, Croston and Adlington Medical Centres, our sites at Lostock Hall and on matters affecting former Eaves Lane Surgery patients. We hope these regular updates will continue to prove useful.

Assault on a member of staff at work

We are sorry to report that on the evening of Tuesday, October 5, a serious incident took place at The Village Surgery, Lostock Hall, in which a member of our reception staff was subjected to a physical assault.

We are appealing for information on the incident, which we understand involved a group of local youths, and anyone who can help is asked to contact us or Lancashire Police.

In order to protect our employees, we now have no alternative but to lock our surgery doors from 6pm until closing time, though phones will remain open and patients can continue to call in person at the surgery when they will be dealt with via the door telecom system.

Further, we are disappointed to report that this is not the first incident of abuse that our staff in the course of their work.

We have, in common with all other NHS establishments, a zero tolerance policy to verbal and physical abuse of staff, and we feel very strongly that our staff should be able to go about their work without having to suffer such abuse.

We would appeal to all our patients to please show respect and kindness to our staff at all times and thank you in anticipation of your help and understanding on this difficult issue.

Covid Vaccination programme

We are offering Covid booster and normal flu jabs at our vaccination hub at Jubilee House, Centurion Way, Leyland PR26 6TR to adults aged 50 plus, front line health care workers and those aged 16-49 with an underlying health condition as agreed by NHS England and JCVI along with adult household contacts of immunosuppressed individuals.

You can choose to have both jabs together or either one but please note there must be at least a six month gap between your second jab and booster.

The clinics are open from 8am to 8pm – closed for lunch 1pm-2pm – from Wednesday to Saturday, and you can make appointments via the NHS app or call as a walk-in up to 7.40pm.

We are also still offering first and second jabs to anyone over 16 either by appointment or walk-in.

On-site appointments

We are continuing to offer as many on site Clinician appointments as possible and we are working on an ongoing basis to add more clinics at each site.

For further details, please call at any of our sites, which are all now fully open, or call us on 01772 376600, and our reception team will try to help in every way possible.

Staff illness and absence

Staff levels are still being affected by both sickness and self-isolation and wherever possible, we are transferring appointments to other clinicians who are still working.

However, there may be occasions when the late cancellation of appointments is unavoidable.

We apologise for this and thank you for your patience on the matter.
