Patient Newsletter Feb 22 Posted or Updated on 22 Feb 2024

Welcome to the latest of our weekly newsletters. We regard it as a priority that all patients are kept fully informed of developments at Adlington and Croston Medical Centres, Buckshaw Surgery, our Eaves Lane, Chorley site and our surgery sites at Lostock Hall. We hope these regular updates continue to prove useful.

Join our Team

There’s still just time to apply for the vacancies within our small, friendly reception/communications teams at both Buckshaw Village Surgery and Adlington Medical Centre.

Hours for each post are 26.25 per week with morning and afternoon shifts, work pattern to be negotiated. We are also open to some flexibility over number of hours worked.

Experience in this field or similar is desirable but not necessary as full training will be given.

If you are interested or you know anyone who may be interested, send a CV and contact details to aimee.clay@nhs.net or drop off your CV and contact details at any of our surgeries.

But please hurry. Interviews will be taking place next week so get your application in as soon as possible.

‘Martha’s Rule’

You may well have seen in the national media news reports advising of the introduction of ‘Martha’s Rule’ in NHS hospitals across England from April.

We thought our patients might appreciate a brief description of what this involves.

Basically, it is a system enabling in-patients at hospitals and their families to seek an urgent review if their condition deteriorates.

They will have round-the-clock access to a rapid review from an independent critical care team if they are worried about their or a loved one’s condition.

This escalation process will be available 24/7 to patients, families and NHS staff, and will be advertised throughout hospitals, making it quickly and easily accessible.

It’s hoped the system will help the NHS improve the care of patients experiencing acute deterioration.

Cancer – Early Diagnosis Campaign

We have joined an NHS wide campaign to encourage patients worried about a symptom that could be cancer to contact their surgery and make a GP appointment.

To rule out cancer, your GP may refer you for tests, but remember whatever the result, your NHS is here for you and will deal with your case as quickly as possible.

Please ask any of our reception staff if you require more information.

Ukraine and Homeless Appeals

We are continuing to accept any toiletries, sanitary products, baby items, pet food, non-perishable food items, shoes, clean duvets, blankets, towels, coats or sleeping bags you can spare for both the Ukraine appeal and the Chorley Homeless Group.

Please drop them off at any of our surgeries during opening hours and we will ensure they are transported to the appeal collection point. As usual, mark your bags accordingly if you’ve a preference as to which appeal you wish your items to go to.
