September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
Posted or Updated on 7 Feb 2023
As we welcome a new month, we also welcome a new topic of cancer awareness.
Throughout September we will be spreading awareness of childhood cancers, and the theme for raising awareness of this type of cancer is ‘When I Grow Up…’.
You will find blank interactive sheets pinned up by our notice boards in the reception area at each of our surgeries.
We would like any children - and adults too - to show us what they would like to be when they grow up.
All completed pages will be displayed on the walls of our reception areas to inspire others.
Come and share your dream with us!
Childhood cancers account for less than one per cent of all cancers in the UK but around 1,800 new cases are diagnosed each year in the UK and on average one child in every 500 will develop a form of cancer by the age of 14.
But thankfully there have been significant improvements in the survival rates for children diagnosed with cancer.
We have once again updated our notice boards around each surgery to provide you with the most information we can.
If you are concerned about any symptoms of childhood cancers please contact our reception team on 01772 376 600 to arrange a GP appointment.
If you would like to speak to somebody for more general information, please contact the surgery and ask to speak to one of our non-clinical cancer champions.
