Patient Newsletter - Nov 2 Posted or Updated on 2 Nov 2023

Welcome to the latest of our weekly newsletters. We regard it as a priority that all our patients are kept fully informed of developments at Adlington and Croston Medical Centres, Buckshaw Surgery, our Eaves Lane, Chorley site and our surgery sites at Lostock Hall. We hope these regular updates will continue to prove useful.

Covid Booster and Annual Flu Injections - Update

We would like to advise all patients that our annual flu vaccination and autumn Covid Booster programme is continuing at our walk-in vaccination hub on Wigan Road, Euxton PR7 6JW, next door to Rowlands Pharmacy and opposite the Bay Horse pub.

Opening hours have been slightly revised and are now 9am to 6pm Wednesday to Friday every week. Closed for lunch 1-2pm.

However, the Saturday walk-in clinics at Buckshaw Surgery have now been discontinued.

Please note you must be over 18 for the Covid jab and over 65 to be eligible for the flu jab.

If you are under 65 and require an annual flu jab, please inquire at local pharmacies. Patients in eligible categories can obtain this jab free of charge.

Please could patients also note that in our column in last month’s Friends of Buckshaw magazine, there was an error in the info re the Covid vaccine.

Where stated that the only reason not to have a Covid vaccine is a severe allergic reaction to the flu vaccine, this should actually read a severe allergic reaction to one of the ingredients of the Covid vaccine. Apologies for any misunderstanding.

Save Money on Prescriptions

There are several ways patients can save money on prescription payments.

A Prescription Prepayment Certificate is worth obtaining if you pay for more than three items in three months, or 11 items in 12 months.

It covers all NHS prescriptions for a set pre-paid price, which can also be spread over 10 direct debit payments. Visit www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/ppc for details.

People on a low income could be entitled to help with costs or even free prescriptions through the low income scheme, which is specifically aimed at those with long term conditions and those living in deprived areas.

To check your eligibility, click on this link www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/check

NHS App/Patient Access/MyGP

If you are over 16, you can access your GP health record on the NHS App and nhs.uk website or via Patient access or MyGP.

You are able to access consultation notes, letters and test results quickly and easily and avoid having to call or visit the surgery.

Follow these links for details or ask any of our reception staff if you need assistance.

Ukraine and Homeless Appeals

The Chorley Homeless Group have issued an urgent appeal for sleeping bags for their service users, and you can drop them off at any or our surgeries during opening hours.

We are also continuing to accept donations for The Chorley Support for Ukraine Group’s ‘Christmas Shoebox’ appeal up to the end of November.

In addition, we are also continuing to accept donation of toiletries, sanitary products, baby items, non-perishable foods, tins of pet food and clean clothing for both appeals.
