Welcome to the latest of our weekly newsletters. We regard it as a priority that all patients at our Adlington, Buckshaw, Croston, Eaves Lane Chorley and Lostock Hall surgeries are kept fully informed of news relevant to them. We hope these updates continue to prove useful.
Mounjaro and Oral HRT
We are continuing to receive a lot of inquiries about Mounjaro, or tirzepatide, which is a medication used to treat type 2 diabetes and support weight loss.
We would firstly point out that while some people may currently qualify for the medication based on national eligibility criteria, it is not available locally at this point so please do not make GP appointments to try to arrange Mounjaro on prescription.
We will update you via this newsletter, our website and social media channels as soon as the situation changes.
We would also like to advise all patients taking HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) medication that there is growing evidence suggesting Mounjaro may affect how the body absorbs HRT tablets and some other oral medications.
This may potentially reduce the effectiveness of HRT in managing menopausal symptoms and protecting long-term health.
For more information, please see the longer article on our website at www.nmhealthinnovations.co.uk or call at your surgery and ask for a printed copy.
If you have any concerns on the above or any other health issue, please book an appointment to discuss and review your medication.
Summer Health Issues
If you or someone else feels unwell with a high temperature in hot weather, it may be a sign of heat exhaustion or heatstroke.
Symptoms include a headache, dizziness and confusion, loss of appetite and feeling sick, excessive sweating, cramps in the arms, legs and stomach and extreme thirst.
If someone is showing signs of heat exhaustion, move them to a cool place and get them to lie down and drink plenty of water or rehydration drinks.
If they do not improve, especially if they are having trouble breathing or lose consciousness, call 999 as they will need urgent medical help.
School Holidays
Please be assured we will be fully staffed throughout the holiday period with the normal level of appointments and the usual level of service at all times.
Stoptober
Stoptober is the Government’s annual mass-participation stop smoking campaign, based on evidence that if a smoker makes it to 28 days smoke-free, they are five times more likely to quit for good.
Smoking remains the single biggest cause of preventable ill health and death, so if you still smoke, watch out for more information on this campaign as the month of October approaches.
